Is this the infamous Stocksbridge Bypass monk?

Sheffield paranormal investigator Andrew Pollard got in touch with us to share footage from a live stream he organised in March 2025 at the infamous Stocksbridge Bypass—and we’re so glad he did.

Watch Andrew’s footage below.

Known as the Yorkshire Ghost Guy, Andrew has spent years investigating the paranormal and has always been fascinated by local hauntings. But this may be his most unsettling case yet. The bypass has a notorious reputation after reports of terrifying sightings dating back to the 1980s.

During its construction, security guards and police officers were left terrified after encountering a sinister, hooded presence—one that seemed intent on frightening them. Road users and walkers in the area have continued to see this formidable figure, which is often said to be accompanied by a damp and musky odour.

After hearing of a work colleague’s unsettling encounter on the lanes above the bypass, Andrew decided to investigate further. The 40-minute livestream seemed pretty uneventful; nothing at all seemed out of the ordinary. But when Andrew reviewed the footage later, he noticed something chilling: a dark, shadowy and hooded figure moving across the bonnet of his car. The most eerie and disturbing aspect of the footage, captured live and with no edits, is just how much it appears to mirror the original reports made by police officers.

Upon his return home, Andrew noticed even more disturbing and strange things—banging pots, fleeting shadows, and that unmistakable feeling that something was “off”. Did something follow him home?

The experience has profoundly changed how Andrew approaches paranormal investigations going forward, and he admits to being far more careful and guarded now.

Whether you’re a sceptic or a believer, Andrew’s impressive footage adds a compelling new layer to the legend of one of Yorkshire’s most haunted roads.
